A study by Betting Hero reveals a surge in NASCAR betting in North Carolina, indicating the sport’s growing popularity among bettors.
Betting Hero and NASCAR have embarked on a collaborative research project, spotlighting consumer betting habits in North Carolina. Conducted in April 2024, the study revealed a surge in NASCAR betting in the Tar Heel State.
The study found bettors were nearly three times more likely to wager on NASCAR than in other states surveyed. NASCAR trailed only the NFL, NBA, and MLB in betting activity, with 70% of respondents admitting to watching a race for the first time due to a wager.
Betting Hero Co-Founder and President, Jai Maw, expressed his belief in the potential of NASCAR to attract and engage fans through well-crafted betting experiences. He noted a clear correlation between fan engagement and betting activity, although NASCAR fans face fewer market and prop betting options.
In 2024, NASCAR’s handle saw a 15% year-over-year growth across the 20 states offering sports betting in March and April of 2023. States like Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Mississippi witnessed at least a 50% increase in their NASCAR handle compared to the previous year. In Nevada and New York, NASCAR’s handle doubled year over year.
Joe Solosky, Managing Director of Sports Betting at NASCAR, sees sports betting as another avenue for passionate NASCAR fans to engage with the sport. He expressed excitement over NASCAR’s success as a betting offering in North Carolina and pledged to continue improving the NASCAR betting product.
North Carolina is set to host the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte on May 26 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
