The Star Entertainment Group witnesses a leadership overhaul with Anne Ward succeeding David Foster as Chair during a challenging market phase.
The Star Entertainment Group has announced a significant shift in its leadership structure, with David Foster stepping down from his role as Chair. Anne Ward is poised to take the helm, bringing a fresh perspective to the company’s direction.
Foster, who assumed the Chairmanship in December 2022, will continue to serve on The Star’s Board on an interim basis, fulfilling his executive duties.
Ward’s appointment as Chair is effective immediately, following her initial role as Director since August 2022.
This reshuffling occurs amidst a period of upheaval for The Star, as both CEO Robbie Cookie and CFO Christina Katsibouba departed in March. The search for a new CEO to steer The Star permanently is underway.
Further adding to the executive exodus, Jessica Mellor, CEO of The Star Gold Coast, announced her resignation effective May 24. Mellor’s brief tenure as the youngest and first female CEO of The Star Gold Coast lasted only six months.
The Star’s challenges extend beyond its executive suite. The group’s share price plummeted by 65% over the past year, a stark contrast to its previous high of AU$5.22 (US$3.43), now dwindling at AU$0.42.
These financial woes coincide with inquiries by the New South Wales (NSW) Independent Casino Commission into alleged misconduct and regulatory violations within the company, including accusations of falsified welfare checks and non-compliance.
