Brazil’s Ministry of Finance sets new rules for sports betting and iGaming platforms. This could revolutionize the country’s betting landscape

Brazil’s Ministry of Finance and Secretariat of Prizes and Betting have set forth technical and security requirements for its betting systems. These guidelines, published in the Official Gazette, will also apply to Brazil’s sports betting and iGaming platforms.

These rules are designed for fixed-odds lottery operators. “The betting systems, integrated by sports betting and online gaming platforms, shall observe and implement the technical requirements established in this Ordinance and its Annexes,” the Ministry stated.

The technical requirements mandate that operating agents maintain the betting system and the respective data in data centers located in Brazilian territory.

Certificates issued to operating agents need annual renewal under the conditions of the latest published requirements. Renewal is also required when there is inclusion, alteration, and exclusion of critical components.

Sports betting operators eyeing licensing in Brazil have 30 days to register their interest. The Ministry of Finance has also outlined bettors’ rights.

Operators wishing to register must include documents reflecting legal qualification, technical qualification, economic qualification, fiscal regularity, and labor.

Foreign operators must establish a Brazilian subsidiary before qualifying to offer sports wagering services. These companies must provide proof of incorporation before gaining an operating license.
